Thereâ€™s a deep pleasure in seeing Boba Fett ride a Bantha across the desert of Tatooine. Director Robert Rodriguez and writer Jon Favreau know this â€" there are two long, sweeping shots of the bounty hunter atop the beast.
And yet, Boba moving slowly back and forth as the Two Suns beat down upon him makes a good metaphor for the third episodeâ€™s problems.
The showâ€™s triumphant second episode (thanks to Bradley for stepping in to review) introduced The Twins, Jabbaâ€™s cousins. Now, they are already heading back to their homeworld, Hutta.
Their lieutenant, the bounty hunter Black Krrsantan, looked set to cause mischief â€" and does exactly that during an assassination attempt.
However, Bobaâ€™s crew captures Krrsantan, and the evil Wookiee is quickly set free in Mos Espa. Krrsantan will inevitably return, but his feud with Boba is over too soon.
And then thereâ€™s the group of Tusken Raiders, so carefully introduced across the opening two episodes, swiftly murdered (have they not suffered enough?) and removed from the chessboard.
These characters will likely return, but their various trajectories have been dramatically altered in an unsatisfying fashion. Perhaps more frustratingly, though, there was so much promise.
Take the dinner scene with Boba and Fennec after Krrsantan crashes Bobaâ€™s beauty sleep. Thereâ€™s tension. How will they respond to the Hutts? Thereâ€™s a hint of The Godfather as Boba carefully ponders the options.
The Hutts arrive â€" and then theyâ€™re off home. Oh. Boba lets Krrsantan go. Erm. The whole sceneâ€™s anti-climatic, and when the Twins reveal thereâ€™s another threat somewhere, itâ€™s disappointing.
Krrsantan and the Hutts versus Boba Fett and Fennec Shand looked set to be a season-long story, Now, Boba has smaller fish to fry: the Pykes.
Getting that information requires Boba to revisit the cityâ€™s mayor. This time, the mayorâ€™s not around, but, thanks to some earlier maneuvering, Boba has a group of capable droid-enhanced Space Mods â€" a colorful tribute to Quadrophenia â€" at hand to give chase.
Thereâ€™s an excellent action sequence as they race through Espa and Boba learns of the Pykes. Yet, itâ€™s testament to their unthreatening nature that Star Wars fans are already speculating the calamari clan cannot be the true villains of the Book of Boba Fett.
Yes, we saw them fight the Tuskens last time around, but they simply do not have the weight (or legacy) that the Hutts had.
The revelation makes the episode feel like another stepping stone rather than telling its own taught story. Boba employing the Space Mods is a nice piece of Tatooine politicking (hello, Office Space's Stephen Root!) that masks more story assembly.
Meanwhile, where the Tusken Raidersâ€™ working as Fettâ€™s enforcers in Mos Espa previously seemed like destiny, they are dead, and Flashback Boba wants revenge for them â€" another setup for a payoff later down the line.
Even the Rancorâ€™s introduction (hello, Danny Trejo!) teases Boba riding the animal, just not today.
The Mandalorian successfully had a â€œmonster of the weekâ€ structure, with every episode relatively disconnected while carefully constructing an overarching story about a masked man taking a green youngling home.
The Book of Boba Fett attempts something similar, but the hook â€" Boba establishing himself as Jabba and Fortunaâ€™s successor â€" does not have the same clear direction.
The opening episode hinted at Mos Espaâ€™s mayor being the main enemy, then the Hutts came along, and now the Pykes are here.
Thereâ€™s a complicated mix of crime families crisscrossing with one another, but Boba needs a singular enemy to play crescendoing gangster games with. The third episode ends up going back and forth too much, offering an unfulfilling entry in the Star Wars series.

From the producing team behind â€œWho Wants to Be a Millionaire,â€ Tug of Words is a fast-paced game where two teams compete to answer word clue questions correctly and pull the flag on the â€œtug of war ropeâ€ to their side.
In round one, each answer involves changing a single letter in the word that appears on the board. For example, with â€˜TUGâ€™ on the board, the answer to the clue â€˜a label inside a garmentâ€™ is â€˜TAG,â€™ and with â€˜TAGâ€™ then on the board, the answer to the clue â€˜hopefully the upstairs neighbors arenâ€™t learning this danceâ€™ is â€˜TAP.â€™ With each round, an additional letter is added creating four and five letter words to solve.
The team with the flag on their side after three rounds wins the game, qualifying them for the bonus round where they have opportunity to compete for $10,000.

SINOPSIS Ikatan Cinta 4 Januari 2022: Maaf Al Tak Buat Surut Tekad Andin Minggat, Papa Surya Minta Ini ke Nino - Ucapan maaf Aldebaran tak berlaku surut untuk tekad Andin pergi dari Pondok Pelita ke rumah Papa Surya dan Mama Sarah. Setibanya Andin di depan rumah, tampaknya sepi. Kemudian istri Al menghubungi Papa Surya menanyakan keberadaannya. Andin mencoba mencoba menyembunyikan masalah besar dalam rumah tangganya, terkait kebohongan Mama Rosa dan Al. Dengan berlaga tenang, Andin pun bilang pada Papa Surya hanya ingin bermain ke Coffe City. Papa Surya curiga dengan apa yang dikatakan Andin, seperti mendapatkan masalah yang tak biasa. Terlebih lagi, Andin dinilai aneh oleh Papa Surya, apalagi di tengah malam berniat untuk berkunjung ke cafe milik ayahnya itu. Diprediksi rahasia masalah rumah tangga Andin dan Aldebaran akan terendus oleh Papa Surya dan Mama Sarah. Namun di sisi lain, Papa Surya dan Mama Sarah tengah cemas dengan kondisi anak Elsa, Keisya yang tengah demam tinggi. Papa Surya sudah curiga, kalau Andin mendapatkan masalah besar. Sebelumnya, Riza memberitahu Angga kalau Andin pergi bawa Reyna dari Pondok Pelita tanpa Aldebaran. Angga berpikir, Al sudah menceritakan soal peristiwa tragis 29 tahun silam yang menimpa Mama Shofia meninggal dunia. Aldebaran merasa cemas dengan kondisi Andi dan Reyna yang sudah pergi dari Pondok Pelita. Al mengirimkan pesan singkat bertanya kepada sang istri, lantaran mengkhawatirkan mereka berdua. Kemudian Andin membalas pesan dari Al, memberitahu kalau mereka berdua sudah di rumah Papa Surya. Padahal, Andin belum bertemu dengan Papa Surya. Al tidak tahu kalau mertuanya tengah di Bandung bersama Elsa. Di samping itu, Andin bingung mau tinggal di mana, lantara oran tuanya tidak ada di rumah. Kemudian Andin memutuskan mengajak Reyna ke sebuah tempat makan. Sebelumnya, Angga menelepon Al dan mengajak berbicara di kediaman Pondok Pelita. Suami Michele itu pun merasa khawatir pada hubungan Andin dan Al. Papa Surya dan Mama Sarah tegang, setelah mendengar kabar Keisya harus melakukan pemeriksaan darah lebih lanjut lantaran demamnya tinggi. Kemudian, tanpa sepengetahuan Elsa dan Mama Sarah, Papa Surya memberitahu Nino soal kabar anak Elsa, Keisya yang dirawat di rumah sakit. Namun, Nino masih kekeh ingin diakui sebagai ayah kandung oleh Reyna, dengan memikirkan raut wajah yang tak bahagia saat ulang tahun dengannya. Nino kemudian mendapatkan telepon dari Papa Surya, yang membuat suami Elsa terkejut dengan kabar anaknya dirawat di Intalasi Gawa Darurat (IGD) di Bandung. Lantas Papa Surya meminta Nino untuk datang ke rumah sakit, di mana mereka menanti kabar Keiysa yang tengah dirawat. Kemungkinan Elsa akan semakin cemas dengan kondisi anaknya yang saat ini tengah dirawat di IGD lantaran alami demam tinggi.
